Shadow the Hedgehog: The reason I was missing... and why the Chaos Emeralds were missing... was an act by secret U.N.S.C. agents to keep the Emeralds out of the enemy's hands. I was assigned as their guardian. I took every precaution, even cloaking Angel Island and the Master Emerald from any form of detection, except the Chaos Emeralds. After carrying this out, I was taken to the moon. For over 200 years, I guarded the Chaos Emeralds here. Now that the Covenant have gone, and the Black ARMS have returned, I wish to offer my service.

Spartan 003: What did you do with the Chaos Emeralds?

Shadow: Well, that's the big question, and here's the big answer... *shows off his gauntlets to reveal 7 colored lights shining on each one*

Spartan 179: What are those gauntlets, anyway? And how did you get the Emeralds inside?

Shadow: They aren't inside them, technically. Actually, they're under my dishwasher. These gauntlets replaced my inhibitor bracelets so that I could store the Chaos Emeralds' energy by going near them. They were based entirely on a design that an old friend used.* They serve that purpose, plus the inhibitors' purpose as well. I am ready to fight any time.

Hunter: That's good to hear, I guess. We'd better get going.

(everyone leaves and heads to a nearby Pelican)
