This is a poem I wrote back in 2014, enjoy!
Poetry is absurdly dumb
Why would someone write out their feelings like that?
If you write poems, you don't get bum
The good ones, all big, round, bouncy and fat
Rhyming is crappy, there's no point
It's stuff you're afraid to say to someone's face
There's plenty of sayings to be coined
But no, you write poems and stay on first base
Poetry is stupid, pitiful, just sad,
A way for people to remain cowards
Whether you're crying, in love, or just plain mad
And it leaves you thinking for hours
Just once in your life, say something out loud
You can do it, just put on a smile
It's a beautiful thing to face the crowd
Have the courage of a child
Everything I ever say gets shot down
I'm honestly never good with words
When I start to speak, I feel like I may drown
Poetry is a shell I can use to gather herds
The people who agree know they're safe
And who says any of the stories are true?
Lately, I've had very little faith.
Times are tough, and I just want to get through
The lyrics and words, to you, might be meaningless
Basically, it's just what we feel
It gets us through our sheepishness
At least, when I write, I have a heart of steel
Poetry might be dumb to you,
But for me, it's real.
