Every year I bump the same short “may the fourth be with you†blog and that’s fine and all, but this year feels different.
I know everyone has mixed opinions on the latest Star Wars movies and Disney as a conglomerate and what have you. The comment section of this blog isn’t going to be the place to argue about that. I want to stay strictly positive.
I think it’s WONDERFUL that we live in a world where we are being supplied new Star Wars content each year. For me, Star Wars has a special place in my heart. My father loved Star Wars, introduced it to me when I was very young, and passed away while I was watching a Star Wars movie (I was watching The Phantom Menace when my mother realized he wasn’t responding and needed an ambulance. I remember the whole night very well but that’s the gist of it). One of my last memories of him was going to see Revenge of the Sith in theaters with him and my mom, getting Dairy Queen on the way there, and then trying to cover my eyes when Anakin was engulfed in flames because I was kinda young for that. Especially after he passed, I grew up surrounding myself in the universe, reading a ton of the extended universe, playing what Star Wars games I could get ahold of, and indulging in every piece of information that I could about the saga.
It makes my heart gushy to think that there are children out there getting into the Star Wars saga that are able to look forward to new content. After ROTS, that was it! Every year, there were rumors that there would be more, but from 2005-2015, nothing was real. I completely understand how the people who had the honor of seeing the original trilogy in theaters felt, because I had such a passion for the movies and being without them for a decade, not even knowing if they would ever make more, was upsetting to me!
Watching The Force Awakens in theaters and being able to experience Star Wars on the big screen as an adult? The memory still makes me tear up just thinking about it. Despite all the problems the newest trilogy may have had, it’s successfully continued the magic that a lot of people experienced back when the other trilogies were coming out. And we can’t forget Rogue One or Solo. Having extra cinematic side stories being released is so fucking cool, especially when it’s basically perfect (Rogue One) and even if it’s not, it’s still fun as hell (Solo).
Even the new Disney resorts are going to be cool and nobody can tell me otherwise. I’ve spent so long imagining what it’d be like to be a part of Star Wars and if I can get just a smidgen of that experience through a dumb hotel and amusement park, I’m gonna do it. We can poo-poo capitalism ‘til the cows come home but god damn it I’m gonna take this opportunity to satisfy my imagination.
All in all, I hope you all had and have a great Star Wars day. Keep the comments positive or I’m turning them off! May the Fourth be with you.
My parents are more Trekkies than Star Wars fans (my dad in particular, though he never would admit it), but I am still sort of familiar with Star Wars (the older ones, anyway), and I've got to say, it's pretty cool.
Now I was gonna just put a comment saying may the fourth be with you and all, but this blog is f-BEEP-ing amazing. I have seen every single star wars movie that has ever come out. I grew up not watching the first three, and watching the rest after that in order. Eventually I did end up getting to watch the first three, mosty cuz I was bored and was to lazy to do anything else. They were god damn AMAZING to me by the way. I am probably waisting all of your time right now, so I'm going to make an entire blog dedicated to this. Check it out when it's done.
