I never give context for poetry before I post it but I want to for this one.
It’s my last day in Missouri. We’re up in the mountains, surrounded by forest, and there’s a storm with some beautiful lightning and calming thunder. I felt inspired to capture how I’m feeling while laying here, listening to the weather. It’s a very simple poem, but I want it to exude the simplicity of a summer night where you run barefoot in the grass and let the rain cover you. It’s not an experience that needs a lot of detail.
Most of all, this poem isn’t about two lovers, unless you want it to be.
This poem is about carefree love, experienced by two people, whether they’re lovers or best friends or something else, enjoying each other’s company. It is about innocent summer memories, ones that someone would reminisce upon for years to come.
I truly hope you guys enjoy it.
Meet me
In the foggy mountains
Lighting
With some rolling thunder
Crickets
Chirping peacefully
The feeling of joy
Surrounded by tranquility
Lake shore
With a beach that’s sandy
Summer air
Making innocent memories
Quiet songs
And the pitter patter of the rain
Gently singing
City lights shine over these hills
Morning comes too quickly
Let’s stay awake
Talk about our future and the friends we’ve made
Soft sand
In between our toes
Your hand
In mine while our love grows
We don’t
Know where we’re going
But we
Know who we are
The evergreen and maple trees
Grow tall and strong and perfectly
I don’t want to ever leave
This place has all I need
Just you and me and a gentle breeze
The grass with dew and the rainfall too
It reminds me of how much I love you
